Ken was born in 1904 the son of Edgar Howard Tye a commercial traveller and Pattie Turner (who were married on July 23 1904 in the parish of Neaton Morris, Lancaster). He married Joan Margrett in 1935 at her home town of Moseley.
They had one daughter Alison born 11 February 1939 at The Old Rectory, Cowthorpe, Yorkshire followed by another daughter Jennifer who died aged 7 days in the July quarter of 1942. He was extremely prosperous and was not only a sucessful businessman but was also heavily involved on the council.

When Ken died the death duties were so huge that Dunnington Hall had to be sold and his widow moved into 'Ghyll House', Lilling, Sheriff Hutton, York.
