John Lesley Tredwell was born on January 22 1896 at 17, Times Grove, Hersiaur Road, Aston and by the age of 5 was living with his grandfather Thomas Instone and aunt and uncle Clara and Alfred in Floyer Road. His father John William was a Railway fireman at the time of his birth but by 1901 was on the census as a Railway clerk. He married Yvonne Cornez and had twin sons Gerald and Ronald.
